Hawaii Kai is a popular region on the east side of Oahu. Large parts of Hawaii Kai were development by Harold Kaiser in the 1960's. He was responsible for the construction of the marina which is the dominate feature here. Life in Hawaii Kai surrounds the marina. The marina has fingers that go back up into the valleys. Around the marina and on the ridges above different neighborhoods and condos were created. This region has a mixture of single family homes, town homes and condos. Some front directly on the private Hawaii Kai marina. This is one of the few places on Oahu where you can have a dock in the back of your home. The marina is connected to Maunalua Bay.
People love to live here because it is generally sunny and breezy throughout the year. They also like life around the marina and Maunalua Bay. This is a great place of the island to get outdoors. There are plenty of ocean activities, from boating and kayaking to surfing and jet skiing. There are also many opportunities to hike like the Makapuu lighthouse and the Koko crater botanical gardens. There is also the convenience of shopping. This has one of the only 3 Costco stores on the island. We also have plenty of shops and restaurants and even a movies theater.
Hawaii Kai Single family home prices can start around $700,000 and go up to over $15 million. Hawaii Kai Condos, which includes town homes and high rise condominium, range in price from $400,000 to over $1,000,000. If you would like to live on the marina in a single family home, try neighborhoods like Luna Kai, Anchorage, Mariner's Cove and West Marina. Condos that are located on the marina include Esplanade, Kalele Kai, Koko Isle, Kuapa Isle, and Gateway Peninsula among others. There a few high rise condos like the Mauna Luan, the Commodore and Mount Terrace. The newest condos in Hawaii Kai are the Colony at the Peninsula and the Peninsula at Hawaii Kai. Neighborhoods located on the golf course are in Queen's Gate, Laulima and Koko Villas. Koko Villas is also a part of the newer developments in Hawaii Kai. This is a single family home development completed in 2005.
Larger, custom homes can be found in neighborhoods like Na Pali Haweo, Portlock, Koko Kai and Triangle. All of these neighborhoods have homes with ocean views and a few with ocean frontage. Most of the lot sizes are generous with most over 10,000 square feet. Ocean views are also great from Mariner's Ridge and Upper Hahaione Valley.
